Dark Ocean 02:34
Two of us, with the stars, the moon, the dark ocean We go rowing all alone in familiar midnight chrome Rippling, the sea’s skin rolls and folds I look into the eyes of you; black ice as we go rowing all alone in familiar midnight chrome and down we go Underneath, where the little creatures breathe I feel you in my sleep; in my sleep, you breathe Two of us, with the stars, the moon, the dark ocean But in the morning, I am one.

Beach 02:40
No, I wasn't fit for the wind that day So you brought me away from the grey in your own humble way down the Ringsend Road today Salty triggers shoot me back in time touching hands on another strand in cold sunshine in the prime of our courtship's climb prancing on the shore like fools in crime Your features, a haze in a vision, a dream The New is what had never been seen But I admit I'd been there before in a different love scene Forget the thoughts you make yourself scrawl We shared something that will always enthral Your photographs and dreamy laughs through my head crawl But what I loved wasn't you at all

Siren 03:47
The northern dark is lifting as cloud is lightly drifting to reveal the rising moon behind mountains tall as Fionn Mac Cumhail standing between me and you As night takes hold of me, I am kept from sleep by your cold mouth and how it speaks and by the light of your pale cheek in my mind's eye Still I lie, lulled by the tide, hear your flowing heavy sighs beneath the surface; calls me down within the dark, a Siren's sound within the dark, enfolds around this placid dark where I am found

about

Recorded between Dublin, Belfast, and Bristol, Siren EP is a collaborative project from Dónal Kearney.

The mythology of the siren is embedded in European folklore. In ancient Greece, the sirens' song lured sailors to shipwreck on rocky Aegean shores. Similarly, the Irish mythology of the maighdean mhara or Gaelic Selkies often have tragic relationships with their human lovers.

Even today, the sea keeps many secrets from us. As with the human mind, we delve at our peril. There are voices calling us down from within. When the siren comes to us in our dreams, we are trapped in an in-between place where reason cannot reach. We are under its spell.

"Beautiful."
- Carl Corcoran, Presenter of The Blue of the Night (RTÉ Lyric FM) | www.rte.ie/lyricfm/the-blue-of-the-night-with-carl-corcoran

"Bittersweet, evocative stories imaginatively told and beautifully sung. Fresh and original."
- Michael McGlynn, GRAMMY®-nominated composer | www.michaelmcglynn.com

"Marrying his background in traditional song with modern production and sensitive arrangements, Dónal Kearney's (AKA weavers) début EP is a refreshingly varied release. Consisting of a humble guitar ballad, a three-part a cappella folk song and the more electronic-influenced title track 'Siren', it is his lyrics that truly capture. Themes of love (lost and found), the natural world, and Irish mythology twist within an overarching theme of the deep, dark water that calls us all."
- Swallow Song Records | www.swallowsongrecords.com

"Stunning voice."
- Janis Ian, Double GRAMMY®-winning singer-songwriter
